Afternoons To Throw Away Like Old Napkins

The small flies and the large flies
fight it out on my windowpane.
The large ones sit on the outside of
the glass
hovering and landing and hovering again.
The small ones are inside and
do much the same,
only faster.
They don't seem to like each other.
The large ones jealous of quickness.
The small ones wanting size of course.
I don't exactly envy them
and their little lives
played out in a day there on the pane of glass,
gazing either forever in
or forever out,
never quite satisfied with where they are.
Always buzzing around
but never going very far,
just moving
from one little spot on the glass to the next.
I try to kill them every chance I get.
